Recently, we started up this podcast and we have seriously been so happy with how things have turned out so far. We can’t wait to keep going and see where this takes us! We will be posting more about some of our favorite (and possibly least favorite) books we’ve ever read. If there is anything you would like us to read and review as a blog, or even for us to read together and review on the podcast, feel free to let us know. Don’t forget to add us on our social media accounts including Facebook, Instagram, Goodreads, Twitter, and Tumblr. We love hearing from everybody and we always love reading things that other people loved. In a way, it makes us feel more connected to people, knowing how much they loved a book!
Hayley
My name is Hayley, and I am addicted to books… now that we have that out of the way, let’s get to know some other things about me that aren’t completely obvious! :)
So first things first, a little about myself…
For as long as I can remember, I have been a total bookworm and completely obsessed with music. I started with playing piano when I was young, mostly learning by ear and sight. I didn’t actually start taking piano lessons until I was in at least seventh grade! I also was in band and played clarinet, and in high school, went on to be in the color guard, as well as school choir until the end of my sophomore year of high school. Music has always been a huge part of my life, and though I haven’t played much piano recently, I do sing (yell) while driving, and I LOVE going to concerts! I only started going to rock shows in the last couple years, but so far, some of my favorite bands I’ve seen live are I See Stars (marry me, Devin!), I Prevail, Butcher Babies, Get Scared, Five Finger Death Punch, Papa Roach, and Starset. These are only a few, I’ve seen some other smaller and local bands as well!
As I mentioned before, I have been obsessed with books for as long as I can remember. When I was younger, I went to an in home daycare, and after lunch and before going swimming in the summer, we had a time in the afternoon dedicated to reading. Many of the older kids, like me, preferred to stay in a separate room reading, while some of us chose to read storybooks to the younger kids. I didn’t read to them much, mostly because I had my nose stuck in one of the other books I couldn’t get enough of! Janet always made sure we had time to read during the day, which made me turn around and after a long day of playing outside and swimming or sledding during the afternoons, I would go home and tuck my nose in a book again. Now, I don’t remember a whole lot of the books I read as a child, because a lot of them were Choose Your Own Adventure books or Hank the Cowdog, but I eventually graduated from reading those to reading actual chapter books. A couple favorites from when I was younger include Bridge to Terabithia, Because of Winn-Dixie, and Where the Red Fern Grows (sobfest!).
Now that I’m older (if 22 counts as older), I pretty much just love to read anything. I’ve always absolutely loved to read young adult books, but I’m also open to reading other things! I have read some new adult romance (fan, please!) and some other adult fiction. I definitely can’t choose a favorite young adult novel, but some of my favorite ones I’ve read include anything by Sarah Dessen, the House of Night series, and anything by Simone Elkeles. Another couple of adult fictional favorites of mine include Suzanne’s Diary for Nicholas by James Patterson, The Last Song by Nicholas Sparks, and The Best of Me by Nicholas Sparks. I’m a sucker for a good romance, and of these books made me laugh, and then cry.. Ugly, snotty cry. But it was totally okay, I swear.
I normally keep everything I’ve read, what I’m currently reading, and what I want to read on my Goodreads page. Not everything I’ve ever read is listed there, but I do have plenty of books I would like to read listed there.
The first book I will personally review is going to be The Last Song by Nicholas Sparks. This one is actually one of the first books of his that I read and I absolutely loved this book, I can’t wait to talk to you all about it!
That’s pretty much all about me, and I think for now it’s time for me to have a reading party of my own.
Happy reading, everyone!
Ariel
Hey there everyone! So I’m Ariel, the other half of the book hangover! This being our first blog post we thought it would be perfect to give you some insight on our lives. Well to start off I was born and raised in Omaha Nebraska and I have never left. I have been totally in love with books since i could read. Though my read adventure started out rough. When i was very young I had lots of trouble reading and understanding words. From kindergarten until about fifth grade I was in a special education class for reading, but in fifth grade something clicked and I haven’t been able to stop since. One of the first books that ever drew me into reading was Nancy Drew and the case of the 99 steps. Have any of you read it? Let know me know if you have! From there it was a slow start to my reading journey. There were two other books that drew me in and finally took off my obsession, those two books were So Be It by sarah Weeks, and Baby Blue by Michelle Kwasney. Those books forever have a place in my heart and may be the first books I will write about in my blogs. From there my obsession took off and now I will read anything I can get my hands on. My love for books was so great growing up that my punishments were being grounded from books! What kind of child was I?!
During my high school years I was in every activity under the sun. I was in theatre doing every play and musical the school had, i even became a Thespian as a freshman one of the first in the school! I was also in the marching band my instrument was flag, and by flag I mean I was in the color guard becoming the captain my last year of school. Even though high school itself was not a fun time for me I really enjoyed all my activities and loved the learning aspect of the experience. As a junior I decided I wanted to graduate early so I did. After graduating high school I went on to a community college and studied Technical Theatre for two years. Deciding that it wasn’t what I wanted to I quit and went to esthetics school.Even with my love of books I still have many hobbies. When I am not reading I spend my time working as an Esthetician at a salon doing all types of facials, body waxing (male and female brazilian waxing included!), manicures and pedicures, and body treatments. I absolutely love my job that is for sure! On my days off i fill my time with teaching color guard as a local high school with a fellow instructor. I also contribute my time to volunteering with the American Cancer Society’s Look Good Feel Better Society where I teach cancer patients how to take care of their skin during treatment and how to apply makeup to make them feel normal during very difficult times. If you, family member, or friend needs more information about this program do not hesitate to reach out to me and I will get you all of the information you need.
I would love to interact with you on any of my personal social media accounts! I have a goodreads account where you can keep up with my reading and see what i have read. You can also add me on instagram where you can see some of the work I do at the salon. And DO NOT forget about snapchat there you can see all of my daily shenanigans.
And my snapchat user name is ARIELviewoflife
Good bye for now friends, and stay brutal my friends!
